An efficient message passing mechanism is essential to the performance of a hypercube system. This thesis presents the design and implementation of a message passing module for a hypercube database computer. Its design concepts and specification are set up by analyzing properties of a hypercube database management system(DBMS) called CoreDB(Computer Engineering Research Lab. DB). Based on the specification, a communication board realizing the message passing module that is suitable to CoreDB application is implemented. Using a high performance processor dedicated to transmit messages, the board significantly reduces communication overheads of a node computer. It provides six communication channels, each of which has the bandwidth of 10 Mbps. By simulation, It is shown that this board has the suficient performance for the hypercube DBMS.
