In this work, transverse vibrations of a string and a beam having moving boundaries were analyses using the wave propagation method. Usually, the moving boundary problem of a string and a beam are solved by assumed mode method. But it was tried to solve these kind problems using wave propagation concepts. A characteristic diagram is introduced to visualize the wave deflections at boundaries. It was found that the suggested method gives almost identical results with those from the conventional approximate methodes.
