The purpose of the study is to identify the torque characteristics in capacitor type electric motors and to analyze the effects of several parameters on the fluctuating components of the motor torque.
To do this, two revolving field theory and stationary reference frame theory were applied to derive a governing equation for the torque generated by the. The results by the two revolving field theory which assumes that the rotor speed is constant were in good agreement with those by the stationary reference frame theory. The motor parameters were measured under conditions of by no load and locking for simulation studies. Simulations were performed to investigate the effect for some design variables on the torque characteristics and compared with actual measurments of the torque, which were obtained indirectly by measuring stator voltage and current. Finally a design improvement is suggested based upon Taguchi method.
