In this work, damper control was attempted to get a better suspension performance of a lumped mass vehicle model. Damper control algorithm was developed based on the on-off type semi-active damper characteristics. A continuously variable damping coefficient damper was designed and it was tested. It was found that delay time, which is inevitable in actual control, acts as a very crucial factor. As long as the delay time is under acceptable range, continuous damper control can reduce the peak acceleration as expected in analysis.
