In this study, the influence of fundamental nonlinearities such as Wheel/Rail geometry and dry friction of suspension system was investigated by Statistical Linearization Method.
It was theoretically found that the so called intermittent hunting occurs mainly due to Wheel/Rail geometry. Also the rail deformation and the suspension parameters effects on the truck stability were investigated on the intermittent hunting critical speed range.
The simulation results were compared with the results of direct nonlinear numerical integration, and it is concluded that the Statistical Linearization Method is a good approximation technique to predict the high nonlinear response of a railway vehicle.
