The main subject of this study is construction of automatic welding system that have the faculty to work weld seam tracking and arc data monitoring together in GMA welding of lap joint.
The system was composed of sensor parts for tracking and monitoring, part for moving torch, and personal computer(IBM-PC) for control. In the system, vision sensor was used for weld seam tracking. An image was captured by frame grabber at the time of short circuit during welding and the threshold method was used for determining the structured light and the central difference method for detecting the weld joint. And the seam tracing of the torch was performed by using the data regeneration algorithm. Arc data monitoring is the acquistions of arc voltage and current, the data was obtained by using two differential amp. and A/D convertor. Using interrupt handling circuit for time sharing, two jobs of tracking and monitoring were performed at required sampling time. Relations between arc data and welding parameter and circumstance were analyzed from experimental result.
