The distributed queue dual bus (DQDB) is a standard protocol for Metropolitan Area Networks (MANs). In this thesis work, we study the waiting time characteristics and a slot reuse scheme of the DQDB protocol. We examine the unfairness problem suffered when the network size is large. And, in relation to this we approximately analyze the position dependent waiting time. Also, we find data segment waiting times under hybrid traffic conditions. In addition, we propose a request control protocol of the erasure node used for slot reuse. This protocol can provide fair performance."
본 논문에서는 DQDB network의 waiting time 특성에 관해 주로 연구했다. 우선 널리 알려져 있는 DQDB protocol의 unfairness에 대해 언급했고, 그와 관련하여 network상의 위치에 따른 waiting time을 근사적으로 구했다. 또한 voice traffic이 공존하는 상황에서의 data segment waiting time도 구했는데 이것은 closed form의 해를 갖지 못하므로 그 대신 사용될 수 있는 근사식도 아울러 구했다. 마지막으로 slot reuse에 사용되는 erasure node의 request control에 관한 protocol을 제안했다. 이 protocol에 의하면 capacity의 증가는 물론, DQDB protocol의 가장 큰 단점이라 할 수 있는 unfairness의 문제를 어느 정도 해결할 수 있을 것으로 보인다.
