With the use of digital systems in all industries, the production and use of image data is increasing rapidly. Accordingly, a decision support system has been introduced using Case-based Reasoning (CBR) to assist users in image-based tasks. The conventional method for providing cases to user is based on similar cases to the target problem. However, this method has limitations in supporting a user's ambiguous judgment in a difficult target problem. To overcome the limitations of existing method, this study proposes a method of presenting a borderline cases that reflect human’s cognitive processes and strategies that occur during classification tasks. The borderline cases can support hypothesis verification through comparison and contrast between emerging competitive hypotheses. Through comparison experiments with the target-similar case providing method, the result shows that the borderline case presentation method is effective in improving the error rate and reducing the time required. Analysis of the aiding cases in a difficult target shows that the cases used when subjects got the right answer were closer to the borderline than when they got the wrong answer.
전 산업 분야에서의 디지털시스템 사용으로 이미지 데이터의 생산 및 이용이 급증하고 있다. 이에 따라 사용자의 이미지 기반 태스크를 돕기 위하여 사례기반추론(Case-based Reasoning)기법을 활용한 의사결정 지원시스템(Decision Support System)이 등장하였다. 보편적인 사례기반 의사결정 지원시스템에서는 타겟 문제와의 유사사례를 제시해주는 방법을 사용한다. 하지만 이러한 타겟 유사사례 제시 방법은 난이도가 높은 타겟 문제에서 사용자의 모호한 판단을 지원해주는 데에 한계를 가지고 있다. 기존 방법의 한계점을 보완하기 위하여 본 연구에서는 분류 태스크 수행 시 발생하는 사람의 인지과정 및 전략을 반영한 경계사례 제시 방법을 제안한다. 경계사례는 경쟁가설 간의 비교 및 대조를 통한 가설 검증을 지원해 줄 수 있다. 타겟 유사사례 제시 방법과의 비교 실험을 통해서 경계사례 제시 방법이 오답률 개선과 소요시간 단축 측면에서 지원 효과가 있음을 보였다. 또한 도움사례를 분석한 결과, 어려운 타겟 문제가 주어졌을 때 정답을 맞춘 경우에 활용한 사례들이 정답을 맞추지 못한 경우보다 경계선에 근접함을 확인하였다.
