The ephemeral user interface is a concept applied to human-computer interaction in terms of the ephemerality of material and its related aesthetic experience, and the concept has been explored through experimental prototypes using various materials. This study proposes a method to use the situation where naturally smoke occurs in everyday life in order to develop an ephemeral display considering user context. And this study develops Smoke Display which is an ephemeral display using cigarette smoke exhaled by smokers for delivering smoking warning messages to smokers. The developed Smoke Display prototype is a projector-based ephemeral display. It shows unique visual effect depending on diffusion movement of cigarette smoke in the air. As a result of the user test, it was observed that the interaction method using the cigarette smoke emitted by smokers induces the voluntary use by causing interest to the smokers. Also, it was confirmed that the unique visual effect of Smoke Display and the temporality of Smoke Display evoke the desire of smokers to identify the smoking warning messages. And the smokers seemed to feel psychological discomfort by experiencing cognitive dissonance by checking the smoking warning messages displayed on cigarette smoke. The experience of smoking warning messages provided by Smoke Display is expected to help smokers to have a smoking cessation intention by providing an environment that allows them to think about their health during smoking.
소멸적 유저 인터페이스는 사라지는 물질의 성질과 그와 관계되는 미적 경험을 인간-컴퓨터 상호작용 분야야 적용한 개념으로 다양한 물질을 이용한 실험적인 프로토타입 개발을 통해 탐구되어 왔다. 본 연구에서는 사용자 맥락을 고려한 소멸적 디스플레이를 개발하기 위해 일상생활에서 자연스럽게 연기가 발생하는 상황을 이용하는 방식을 제시한다. 그리고 흡연자가 내뿜는 담배 연기를 이용하여 흡연자에게 흡연 경고 메시지를 전달하는 소멸적 디스플레이를 개발한다. 개발된 스모크 디스플레이 프로토타입은 흡연자가 내뿜는 담배 연기를 이용한 프로젝터 기반의 소멸적 디스플레이다. 스모크 디스플레이는 담배 연기의 공기 중 확산 운동에 따라 독특한 시각 효과를 보여준다. 사용 경험 평가 결과, 스모크 디스플레이의 흡연자가 내뿜는 담배 연기를 이용한 인터랙션 방식은 흡연자에게 흥미를 유발시켜 자발적 사용을 유도하는 것으로 관찰되었다. 또한 스모크 디스플레이의 독특한 시각 효과와 일시적인 특성은 흡연자에게 흡연 경고 메시지를 확인하고 싶은 욕구를 불러일으키는 것으로 확인되었다. 그리고 흡연자들은 담배 연기에 나타나는 흡연 경고 메시지를 확인하고 인지부조화를 경험하여 심리적 불편함을 느끼는 것으로 보였다. 스모크 디스플레이가 제공하는 흡연 경고 메시지 경험은 흡연자에게 흡연 중에 자신의 건강에 대한 생각을 할 수 있는 환경 제공을 통해 금연 의도를 갖을 수 있도록 유도하는데 도움이 될 것으로 예상된다.
