In the early stages of material selection, users explore the possibility of the look & feel of the product by various applications of materials. Exploring design alternatives by transforming the user's initial choices in the design process can result in more innovative and effective design results. The goal of this study is to explore the value of exploring design alternatives based on material reconfiguration. Participants in the exploratory study compared their design to reconfigured cases. As a result, it was confirmed that the material reconfigured alternatives could find more satisfactory results. Next, we developed a design tool with material reconfiguration and conducted a user test. As a result of the evaluation, 17 out of 20 outcomes were directly or indirectly influenced by reconfigured alternatives and the value of utilization was verified in various aspects.
재질 선택의 초기 단계에서 재질의 다양한 적용에 의한 제품의 외관 및 느낌의 가능성이 탐색 된다. 디자인 과정에서 사용자의 초기 선택을 변형한 대안을 탐색해보는 것은 보다 참신하고 효과적인 디자인 결과물을 얻도록 한다. 본 연구의 목표는 재질의 시각적 탐색 과정에서 재질 재배치에 기반한 디자인 대안을 탐색하는 것이 가지는 가치를 탐구하는 것이다. 탐색 연구에서 사용자들은 본인의 디자인과 재질 재배치 대안을 비교하여 평가 하였다. 그 결과, 재질 재배치 대안에서 본인의 결과물보다 만족스러운 결과물을 찾을 수 있는 가능성이 확인되었다. 다음으로, 탐색 연구에서 도출한 활용 방안에 따라 재질 재배치가 적용된 디자인 도구를 개발하여 사용자 평가를 진행하였다. 평가 결과, 총 20개의 결과물 중 17개가 재배치 대안에서부터 직？간접적 영향을 받은 것으로 드러났으며 다양한 측면에서 활용 가치가 검증되었다.
