This research analyzed the changes in students' performances and learning interest levels when baseball, one of the most popular sports, and the numbers appear in it were used in math class. The research was carried out for two months surveying 120 male students in Incheon region; 98 from A Highschool and 22 from B Highschool. In A Highschool 50 students (experimental group) were taught math using the material related with baseball, and 48 students (controlled group) using conventional textbooks. After a certain period students' achievements and the changes in their attitude toward math were measured. The students from B Highschool went to watch a baseball game and their attitudes toward math were observed. As a result it was proved that the lessons using baseball numbers aroused A Highschool students' interest in math and contributed to improvement in their performances in math to some degree. Especially students who previously had scored low grade in math showed relatively big improvement in their achievements. B Highschool students who participated in field classes at the baseball park showed improved level of learning interests than before the experiment. This research suggests that numbers in baseball can be used not only in regular lessons but also in after school lessons, Free Semester System and club activities.
이 연구는 국내 최고의 인기 스포츠이자, 생활 속 흥미로운 소재인 야구를 수학 수업에 활용했을 때 학생들의 흥미도와 학업 성취도 등에 어떤 변화가 있는지 알아보는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 인천 지역 인문계 A고교(98명)와 B고교(22명) 남학생 총 120명을 대상으로 두 달 가량 연구를 진행했다. A 고교의 경우 야구와 연결된 수학 교재로 수업을 받은 실험반과 기존 방식대로 수업을 받은 비교반 간 흥미도와 학업 성취도 변화를 측정했다. B고교는 야구장 현장 체험 학습을 한 뒤 흥미도 변화를 살폈다. 연구 결과 A고교의 경우 실험반 학생들의 흥미와 학업 성취도가 동반 향상했다. 학업 성취도 면에서 성적 하위권 학생들의 개선이 상대적으로 두드러졌다. B고교 학생들도 야구장 수학 체험 학습을 한 뒤 흥미도가 높아졌다. 이번 연구가 정규 수업에서도 효과적으로 적용될 수 있다는 점과 함께 자유학기제, 방과 후 수업, 동아리 활동 등에 확대 적용될 수 있다는 점을 제안하였다.
