The effect of plastic spin, which accounts for the flow induced anisotropy due to large deformations, in elasto-plastic constitutive equation is examined for several large deformations including axisymmetric and plane strain necking, shear and upsetting test for plane strain deformations. Updated finite element procedure is used in conjuction with remeshing technique to treat large deformations.
The effect of plastic spin appears to be significant for a class of deformations that initially involve large shear strains, but it is found to be negligible for deformations with small initial shear strains, such as, the necking and the upsetting deformations.
