Fatigue strength database system for personal computer was constructed using the databook on fatigue strength of metallic materials published by the society of materials science, Japan. In the system, material code was used and each set of data was composed of 12 files. Five kinds of application programs are included in the database system, functions of which are appending, updating, searching and displaying the data and help. Using the database constructed, estimation method of S-N curves from mechanical property data of material was discussed. Mitchell's method provides reasonable results for ferrous materials, while Manson's universal slope method gives somewhat overconservative estimate. On the other hand, for nonferrous materials, Mitchell's equation leads to nonconservative predictions. A method of estimating S-N curve was proposed for nonferrous materials.
