In this thesis, a high speed image processing system called HSVS(High Speed Vision System) whose cost is less expensive than that of conventional Image Processing Workstations is designed and implemented. HSVS consists of two parts, Graphic board and DSP board. Graphic board which has SIMD structured parallel architecture is responsible for image display, graphics and some image processing and general CPU operation as a master of HSVS. DSP board is designed to speed up complex arithmetic operations in .image processing. In Graphic board, basic graphic primitives are implemented and high speed data communication methods between Graphic board and DSP board are also developed. In DSP board special memory architecture to reduce communication overhead is designed. HSVS operating environment and its applications are specified and experimental results show the availability of the designed system as an interactive image processing tool.
