This thesis describes a restoration method of lost image blocks in the hybrid video coding. Hybrid coding consists of motion compensated interframe DPCM, DCT (discrete cosine transform) and VLC (variable length coding).
Due to all kinds of redundancy reduction techniques, the decoding process is more susceptible to transmission error. The first action for error resilience is to replace the erroneous parts of picture. But this parts result in a difference between the transmitted and decoded image, that will propagate in the temporal direction.
In this thesis, it is shown that loop filter has the effect of restriction of temporal error propagation. Also, the motion compensated block replacement is shown to be effective in restoration.
The result shows that the method has a good performance when the lost motion vector is predicted well.
