This study was carried out to enhance the performance efficiency of sequencing batch reactor(SBR) removing nitrogen and phosphorus. Porous biomass support system(PBSS) were introduced to SBR for better operation.
Experiments were conducted in three steps in order to find out the effects of mixing intensity and media size on the removal efficiency, also, stability for shock loading. The results obtained in this study were as follows;
o. At mixing intensity of 60 rpm, the efficiency of phosphorus removal and was the highest with high biomass phosphorus.
o. The C/N ratio was more sensitive factor than the media size in the removal efficiencies of nitrogen and phosphorus.
o. A SBR process with PBSS was more stable than a normal SBR for shock loading.
o. Generally, activated sludge with immobilized system has been considered that effective reaction did not occur in the inner part of media. However, from the results of track study, it was found that formation rate of NOx-N decreased with aeration period. It meant that anoxic part of media contributed to denitrification of NOx-N.
