$\textrm{Alpha}_1$-antitrypsin has been considered as an additional biochemical tumor marker for the diagnosis of hepatoma. In this study, the serum levels of alpha-antitrypsin were tested by rocket immunoelectrophoresis in three different Korean groups. The distribution of the serum levels of normal humans was from 1.0 to 3.0 mg/ml and the average serum level was 1.7 mg/ml. Hepatoma patients, however, tested to elevated levels of the protein. 70% of the patients have more than 3.5 mg.ml of alpha-antitrypsin in their sera. In the case of alpha-fetoprotein positive humans (＞ 700 ng), more than 90% showed elevated levels of he protein considering that only about 60% of the hepatoma patients has alpha-fetoprotein in their sera, $^{25}$ it can be concluded that $\textrm{alpha}_1$-antitrypsin should be used as a maker together with alpha-fetoprotein to increase the efficiency of the diagnosis of hepatoma.
$\textrm{Alpha}_1$-Antitrypsin 은 암의 진단에 유용한 새로운 생화학적 진단 표식으로 고려되어 한국인을 대상으로 연구하였다.
사람의 혈청 $\textrm{alpha}_1$-antitrypsin 농도는 Rocket immunoelectrophoresis 방법을 이용하여 측정하였는데, 측정대상 이었던 집단은 정상인, 간암환자, 그리고 alpha-fetoprotein 양성인 사람들 이었다. 정상인의 평균 혈청 $\textrm{alpha}_1$-antitrypsin 농도는 1.72 mg/ml 이었고, 농도범위는 1.0-3.0 mg/ml 이었다. 간암환자들의 경우에는 그 농도의 증가가 나타났는데 그중 70% 정도는 3.5 mg/ml 이상으로 나타났다. Alpha-petoprotein 양성인 사람의 혈중 $\textrm{alpha}_1$-antitrypsin 농도는 3.5 mg/ml 보다 높게 나타나는 경우가 90% 이상이었다. 간암 환자중 alpha-fetoprotein 이 양성으로 나타나는 경우가 60% 정도인 $^{27}$ 점을 고려하면, 간암진단의 정확도를 높이기 위해서는 혈청의 $\textrm{alpha}_1$-antitrypsin 과 alpha-fetoprotein 을 같이 측정해야 할 것으로 판명되었다.
