The frictional characteristics of the plain type guideway is investigated in this study with an aim of establishing an indirect in-situ measuring method of the friction existing in a machine tool.
A theoretical dynamic model of guideway is developed to describe how to total control performance of a machine servo system is influenced by friction. The analytical solution for the model is derived and verified through computer simulation.
Finally, based on the model, a measurement system is built and further research work is recommended to improve the measurement system.
