The effect of local change of supply pressure on the stability in hybrid gas journal bearings is investigated theoretically.
The analysis is performed for a bearing with several feeding holes and no recess volume, which are assumed to be point sources, and is based on a first order perturbation of journal center motion about steady-state position.
For the uniform supply pressure, the present results about the steady-state characteristics and the stability are compared with experimental and theoretical results in the literatures, and are found to agree better with the experimental results than the results of line sources.
It is shown that the stability can be improved by using the non-uniform supply pressure.
