Many high temperature componet of gas turbines, and in particular the rotating part, are expected to operate in hostile environments under complex conditions of stress. Which study is principally concerned with the damage the accumulates during creep. Here, "damage" is used to denote the formation of cavities and cracks at grain boundaries and the results of stress-induced changes in the microstructures.
Quantitative relations to describe the accumulation of creep damage in term of length parameter have been derived and may be used to estimate the remaining life of material exposed to creep.
