The military manpower planning system can be characterized by the following criteria : satisfying the dynamic manpower requirements of each grade, maintaining the consistency in the number of promotion, and providing the equal opportunity of promotion.
In this thesis, the military manpower planning problem is formulated in the Fuzzy Mathematical programming model. In this approach, the decision maker can reveal his/her preference on each criterion by an interactive method improving the solution toward the intended direction gradually. The experimental results have shown the practical applicability of this approach.
The advantages of the fuzzy approach are that the decision maker can obtain the efficient solutions all at once without trial and error, and that this approach provides better support in helping the judgment for interactive improvement of solution in comparison with the weighting method, because decision maker can reveal his/her preference as a satisfaction level of a certain criterion directly. In the future, research for the generation of a suitable membership function and aggregation operators is necessary.
