An experimental study has been performed on the turbulent flow in a 2 - D curved duct of which inlet velocity profile is either uniform or uniform shear. The measurements are made of wall static pressure, streamwise mean velocity and streamwise turbulent intensity.
For this study, a shear generator which produces a turbulent uniform shear flow and a curved duct ( Rc=1.0m ) have been designed and manufactured.
The trends of mean velocity development and wall static pressure distribution under the two inlet conditions are found to be similar to each other. However, turbulent intensity of concave surface along the streamwise direction is nearly constant with inlet uniform flow, but decrease with inlet uniform shear flow, which implies that the uniform shear flow as an inlet condition stablize the concave surface flow.
