Finite element analysis of large elastic-plastic deformations is considered with emphasis upon the computational implementation of a constitutive equation involving the so-called plastic spin. The initial stress type approach is used in which the asymmetric stiffness term associated with the plastic spin is omitted. The simple shear deformation is considered for verification of the finite element solution, and the role of the plastic spin in elastic-plastic constitutive modeling is briefly discussed in conjunction with this deformation.
