An experimental study on the performance of the IST(Ice Storage Tank) with release process in the Ice Thermal Storage System was carried out. Release process was performed by melting the ice in the IST and measuring the temperatures in the IST.
The effects of several design and operating parameters, such as diameter, position and height of inlet and outlet of the IST, temperature difference between inlet and outlet, IPE(Ice Packing Factor) and flow rate, were investigated by release experiments.
As a result of experiments, it was found that the thermal stratification was well established with the increase of inlet diameter, the decrease of flow rate and the increase of depth difference between inlet and outlet. The effective heat ratio can be exressed as a simple function of Froude number with logarithmic relations.
