Although the structure of a brushless dc motor is similar to that of a permanent magnet synchronous motor, its operating characteristics are the same as those of a permanent magnet dc motor. The brushless dc motor drive system is, therefore, composed of power converter including an inverter, rotor-position sensor and controller. In this thesis, a servo amp of brushless dc motor is designed and implemented with a new power MOSFET inverter. The new power MOSFET inverter is proposed in order to solve several problems which are inherent in a power MOSFET inverter due to the relatively long reverse recovery time of an internal diode in power MOSFET. The aim of the resulted system is speed control of the motor, which is accomplished by vector control employing field orientation. The simulation and experimental results are given in the end.
