Multiple wire corona discharge(MWCD) transversely excited atmospheric pressare(TEA) $CO_2$ laser system is designed, fabricated and the laser dynamics are investigated. The experimentally obtained results of MWCD TEA $CO_2$ laser system are compared with those of surface corona discharge(SCD) TEA $CO_2$ laser system.
The maximum output energy of MWCD TEA $CO_2$ laser system is 470mJ and optimum gas ratio is 1:1:2.5($CO_2$:$N_2$:He).
The maximum output energy and optimum gas ratio of SCD TEA $CO_2$ laser system are found to be 360mJ and 1:1:3.5, respectively.
MWCD TEA $CO_2$ laser is more efficient, stable, economical and powerful than SCD TEA $CO_2$ laser.
It should be one of the most suitalile pulsed $CO_2$ laser for high power and large output energy.
