To explore the structure effect of emulsifier toward the emulsion polymerization, cholic acid sodium salt(NaCh) which has rigid disc-shapped structure and influences on absorption of dietary fat, was employed as emulsifier in PMMA emulsion polymerization.
In the case of only NaCh was used as emulsifier, polymer emulsion viscosity and stability was much lower than the case of typical anionic surfactant, sodium dodecylsulfate(SDS). In the case of comicelle composed of SDS and NaCh, emulsion viscosity decreased and stability was slightly increased, and polymer molecular weight and conversion is independent of NaCh addition.
