A knowledge-based system has been developed to implement the ambiguous process of conceptual design in ealier design stage of the planar fourbar linkage mechanisms and to incorporate it in the process of detailed design. Also the developed system provides the causes and redesign direction according to symptoms after analysis.
The System is composed of summary of Basic Terminology of linkage mechanism, trouble-shooting Guide, FORTRAN Program for numerical computation, Pascal Program for data interface, systematic mechanism classification, graphic animation to inform user how the mechanism operates, and optimal design program for demonstrating the utility of knowledge-based system.
The usefulness of the knowledge-based system is demonstrated by comparing the result with the one from conventional design method.
