In designing of bearing systems which are widely used in the rotating machinery, it is important to improve bearing performance, fatigue strength and economical efficiency.
One method of such improvements is to preload the bearing component.
In this study, the effects of preloading were investigated for an automobile differential pinion support bearing system composed of tagered roller bearings and collapsible spacer.
Load distribution in bearing system was analyzed, and the effect of preloading on fatigue life and the optimum amount of preload were discussed.
