An experimental research has been carried out to find the intermittency distribution and conditional-sampled correlations in the transition region of a round jet in order to elucidate detailed turbulence structure and to obtain various basic data necessary for computational turbulence modelling.
The turbulence signal was processed digitally using Reynolds averaged and zone averaged velocity components.
The various conditional-sampled high-order correlations showed the same trend as those of other free shear flows.
From the non-turbulent zone averages using zone averaged velocity components, it was found that the non-turbulent fluid contribute negligibly to the turbulent kinetic energy production and the diffusive transport.
