This study is focused on Naver which takes 70% of the portal news market to 1) understand the prevalence of abusing of Korea's media ecosystem, 2) analyze the extent of the abusing of a specific press based on real time and issue queries service, and 3) come up with ways to improve the abusing phenomenon of queries service through an interview with the professionals.
Upon analyzing the reality, the results showed that a wide range of press were found to be abusing specific search words in the article to ensure the security of internet traffic. Hot topic key words were the most abused in article abusement. It has been investigated that the hot topic key words were more convenient for abusing than the real time search words which were more sensitive to time. Regarding the size of the media companies, larger media companies had done more article abusing than small media companies.
The portal has propped up the technical and institutional measures to prevent abusing. However, these measures are ineffective in reality. More importantly, the portal cannot prevent the more influential press companies who carry out more abusement.
본 연구는 1) 어뷰징이 만연할 수밖에 없는 한국의 언론 생태계 현실을 파악하고, 2)실시간 검색어와 이슈 검색어 서비스를 기반으로 한 언론사들의 기사 어뷰징 실태가 어느 정도인지, 3) 전문가와의 심층 인터뷰를 통해 검색어 서비스를 중심으로 기사 어뷰징 현상을 개선하기 위한 방안을 알아보기 위한 것이다. 모든 포털을 대상으로 하기에는 현실적으로 어려움이 있어 검색시장의 70%를 차지하고 있는 네이버를 중심으로 이뤄졌다.
실태 파악결과 광범위한 언론사들은 트래픽 확보를 위해 특정 검색어에 대해 기사 어뷰징을 하고 있었다. 기사 어뷰징에 주로 이용되는 검색어 서비스는 핫토픽 키워드였다. 짧은 시간 순위가 변하는 실시간 급상승 검색어 보다는 특정 시간대 검색어 순위를 모아 보여주는 핫토픽 키워드가 어뷰징에 더 용이했기 때문으로 분석된다. 언론사 규모별로는 소규모 언론사 보다는 대형 언론사가 어뷰징에 더 열중하고 있었다.
포털에서는 어뷰징 방지를 위한 기술적이고 제도적인 대책을 내놓고 있다. 하지만 현실에서는 이러한 대책이 실효성을 거두지 못하고 있다. 특히 사회적 영향력이 큰 대형 언론사의 기사 어뷰징 실태가 더 심각했다. 하지만 포털은 이를 효과적으로 방지하지 못하고 있었다.
