In this thesis, the performance of an integrated voice/data cut-through switching network is studied. First, we derive cut-through probabilities of voice and data packets at intermediate nodes, respectively. For analysis, we assume that, when a packet arrives, the queue size and the remaining service time of the packet being served at the node are independent. To prove the validity of analysis, we compared the analytic results with that of simulation. These results have shown that, for the case of voice packets, it is in good agreement with simulation, and for the case of data packets, it is slightly less accurate. Second, the Laplace transform for the network delay is obtained. We concentrate mainly on the performance for data traffic in noisy channel since voice communication in a cut-through switching network is much superior to that in a packet switching network. From the analytic results, the performance of cut-through switching is shown to be superior to that of packet switching in most parameter values except for the case of high channel error rates and high traffic intensity.
