The fringe field for magnetic thin-film heads containing a current conductor is calculated with th boundary element method (BEM) for two dimensional models. The effects of a permeable underlayer to the magnetic head are also calculated. Numerical results are compared to other numerical and experimental results. It is found that the BEM can be efficiently used for problems containing of four different permeabilities.
