In biaxially loaded column design, the applicability of the existing approximate formula for the normal strength concrete to the high strength concrete is examined in this thesis.
To examine the applicability of the approximate formula, two typical formulas are selected, which are Bresler's method and Parme's method. The analyses for the various parameters, i.e., concrete compressive strength, yield strength of steel, steel ratio, aspect ratio, are carried out using the actual stress-strain curve of high strength concrete obtained experimentally, not using the equivalent rectangular stress block.
The results of examinations for the formulas mentioned above are shown that the formulas may be applicable to the high strength concrete design. However, whether the existing approximate formulas can be applied practically in high strength concrete column design or not must be more reviewed.
