Variations in engine temperature affect performance such as torque, power and brake specific fuel consumption. In order to control 3 variable engine temperatures-coolant, lubricant and inlet air, direct digital control algorithm was applied to a microcomputer based system. PI and PID gains were obtained by Z-N tuning method which suggest optimal control gains for the process represented by dynamic equation difficult to solve mathematically.
In addition, the effect of the engine temperatures on engine performance were investigated by carring out engine tests for various loads and speeds conditions.
