Performance of water-to-water heat pump system under varying environmental input conditions such as the inlet mass flow rate and temperature is simulated by modelling the elements of vapor compression heat pump system.
In order to apply the simulation program for any refrigrant, a subroutine for calculation of thermodynamic properties of 12 refrigerant fluids (R11, R22, R13, R14, R21, R22, R23, R113, R114, R500, R502, C318) is included in the program.
The heat exchangers for both condenser and evaporator are selected with shell-and-tube type configuration. Thermal expansion valve is controlled by a feed back signal from the exit temperature of the evaporator to have a prescribed superheated condition of about 5 C. The compression process is simulated as a reciprocating type.
The program developed by this study is found to yield satisfactory simulation for typical operating conditions.
