Described in this thesis is the grouping scheme of sculptured surface according to the features of shape of sculptured surface which can be found in the engineering product.
The features of shape considered in this thesis to specify which features the given surface has are symmetry,design axis(such as rotation axis, center line, spine of surface), section/profile curve, edge curve and cut-out(or blanking).
The described methodology of surface modeling is based on the shape data which are obtained from surface design or measurement of the physical model. The type of the shape data are varied according to the usage of surface, the measuring method of the physical model and the feature of surface shape.
Also described in this thesis is a step-by-step procedure of the grouping scheme of sculptured surface and surface modeling according to the features of shape, acquisition of the shape data from surface design and measurement of the physical model, the description method of the shape data on the drawing obtained from the surface design and measurement.
