A microcomputer communication network suitable for real-time applications is developed by using inexpensive, programmable data control chip. The communication network is characterized by open-ring structure, message train, and centralized control. Open-ring structure coming from D-Net, eliminates overhead due to message removal in conventional closed ring. At each token turn-around, message train is made by multiple accessing of attached nodes. Channel efficiency can be enhanced by multiple accessing. Centralized control makes protocol design simple. Access ordering is sequentialized with round robin by using explicit token. Channel access time is bounded with finite limit by this collision-free protocol. This boundness is shown in simulation result. This feature is very important for real-time application.
최근에는 음성통신이나 공장자동화의 프로세스 제어를 위하여 유한한 응답시간을 줄수있는 LAN의 scheme을 이용하게 되었고 이런 특성을 가지는 LAN은 VLSI의 발전에 의하여 쉽게 구현될수 있었다. 이런 환경에서 데이타 통신을 제어할수있는 값싼 chip을 사용하여 실시간 특성을 만족시켜 줄수 있는 ring-network의 하위 protocol을 구현하였다. 구현된 network은 open-ring 구조, message-train 그리고 집중화된 제어방식에 의해 특징지워 질수있다. openring 구조에서 token-passing에 의한 collision-free protocol에 의해서 유한한 응답시간을 줄수 있었으며 기존의 closed-ring에서의 message 제거에 의한 protocol상의 overhead를 줄일수 있다. 그리고 한번의 token cycle에서 여러 node들의 채널 access에 의해 형성된 message-train에 의해 높은 채널효율을 줄수 있었다. Primary node의 집중화된 제어방식에 의해 protocol을 간단하게 design할수 있지만 신뢰도에 있어서는 다소 떨어질수도 있다는 점이 단점으로 지적되고 있다.
