The reliability is the critical issue in many computer applications, particularly in process control systems. In this thesis we describe how to achieve the reliability improvement in multiprocessor based boiler backup control system using cold standby redundancy.
The proposed method is accomplished by using the techniques of fault detection, backup system isolation, and fault diagnosis.
Fault detection is restricted to hardware fault and some software fault additively.
Backup system isolation is implemented by resetting of the switching system.
Fault diagnosis is executed by voting of the self diagnosis output in each module.
These techniques are implemented in MC68000 based microcomputers with VME BUS.
