EDIF(Electronic Interchange Format) was chosen in this thesis as standard format for describing various features of standard cells and macros for the benefit of providing smooth data exchange among various CAD programs and friendly user I/O using graphic tools, integrating various information for each cell in one aggregate, thus easing the task of cell library-update with process parameter change and incorporation of new design aspects. Various programs such as E2C, C2E, E2SL, E2SN were developed to convert the design data between EDIF format and CIF (Caltech Intermidiate Form)format, and as a preprocessor for various layout generation programs(SPLACE,SROUTE,CELGEN).
Data compatibility among other programs such as HIENA (schematic editor), CIREX(circuit extractor), LSIM(logic simulator) has been achieved through this common database, which consists of approximately 50 standard cells currently. Several design examples included has demonstrated the usefulness of this approach.
