Most previously developed methods of creative support for story software focused on the convenience of process. Therefore, the story software alone provide only rudimentary support for the creation process itself. This study aims to develop an application that supports `character creation` in the story writing process, breaking away from the traditional perspective that centered around maximizing efficiency of work process and starting a new perspective of using a computer program for `useful and valuable work process`. This new perspective will enable the creation of richer and more interesting characters for story.
This paper presents the development of a new computer-based story development tool, `Random Character Creator` that helps the creator build a character. Set types of variables that can be considered to build a `character` in story and establish database for each variable. Based on each variable and database, make a prototype of the `Random Character Creator` program that allows the user to create a `character sample` with a combination of randomly/selectively chosen variables. Example of result will be evaluated for the practical use in theater play fields.
기존의 서사창작 도구는 창작과정에서의 편의성 증진을 목적으로 한 창작지원 효과라는 한계점을 가지며, 유의미한 창작지원 도구로서의 기여도가 부족하였다. 창작 도구로서 본질적인 창작과정 지원을 위해서는 컴퓨터 프로그램을 사용함으로써 얻을 수 있는 창작 발상 효과를 위한 방법론이 요구된다. 즉, 어떠한 방식을 사용하여 사람이 수행하는 창작 과정을 컴퓨터가 수행하게 할 것인가에 대한 연구가 필요하며, 본 연구에서는 해당 방식에 대한 방법론으로서 랜덤 모듈을 사용한 변인의 조합 방식을 제안하고자 한다. 방법론 시도를 위하여 연구자는 서사 창작 작업에서 ‘캐릭터’를 만들어 내는 과정에서 고려할 수 있는 변인의 종류를 설정하고, 각 변인의 데이터베이스를 구축하였다. 또한 해당 변인과 데이터베이스를 기반으로, 각 변인을 ‘임의적/선택적’ 으로 조합한 ‘캐릭터 샘플’을 생성할 수 있는 ‘랜덤 모듈’이 포함된 어플리케이션 ‘Random Character Creator`를 설계 및 제작하였다. 방법론의 검증을 위하여 해당 어플리케이션의 적용부분을 연극 공연 창작의 서사창작 과정과 역할창조 과정으로 나누어 각각의 사용 방안을 고찰하고 해당 과정별 전문가를 대상으로 사용자 평가 및 면대면 인터뷰를 수행하였다. 사용자 평가 결과 및 인터뷰 논의를 바탕으로 보다 종합적인 창작 도구 개발 방안을 제시함으로써 창작과정에서의 총체적 적용을 위한 후속연구를 제안 한다.
