According to Pedro (2014), the risk-managed momentum strategy shows superior performance in terms of maintaining better risk-adjusted returns as well as protecting momentum crashes compared to pure momentum strategies. This thesis analyzes whether the risk-managed strategy is applicable in Korean stock market. This research investigates how strongly the volatility clustering happens in Korean stock market and momentum strategies. Furthermore, this study verifies whether this scaled momentum strategy can be a useful strategy by controlling its own volatility. As a result, using the market data from the year 2000 to 2015 in Korean stock market, on the certain level of volatility, the new momentum strategy brings an outstanding performance that reduces its maximum drawdown from 69.4% to 44.5% and improves its sharpe ratio from 0.179 to 0.215 on a monthly basis relative to the pure momentum strategy.
페드로(2014)의 논문에 따르면 위험관리 모멘텀 전략은 순수 모멘텀 전략과 비교하여 momentum crashes 현상을 방지함과 동시에 상대적으로 더 높은 위험 조정 수익을 유지한다는 점에서 우수한 성과를 보여준다. 이 논문은 이러한 위험관리 모멘텀 전략이 한국 주식시장에서 적용가능한지에 대해 분석하고 있다. 이번 연구는 한국주식시장과 모멘텀 전략에서 변동성 밀집 현상이 얼마나 강하게 발생하는지에 대해 우선 조사한다. 이와 함께 새로운 모멘텀 전략이 변동성을 통제함으로써 유용한 전략이 될 수 있는지 살펴본다. 결과적으로 2000년부터 2015년까지의 기간동안 한국 주식시장의 월간 시장 데이터를 이용하였을 때, 특정한 변동성의 수준에서 위험관리 모멘텀 전략은 순수 모멘텀 전략과 비교하여 최대손실을 69.4%에서 44.5%로 줄일 수 있었고 샤프비율을 0.179에서 0.215로 항샹시킬 수 있었다.
