A user-friendly interactive computer aided design program for planar mechanisms, using IBM-PC micro-computer, has been developed. It is organized such that the user can pick up elements and lay out mechanism as conceived in the initial design phase. The program also presents results of kinematic analysis, given prescribed motions of driving elements. Presently it has a library of only 10 basic elements. The program, however, is structured so that a future expansion to space mechanisms with dynamic analysis and synthesis capability is possible. It has 8 modules with all commands menu-driven, accessing any module at any instant. The data base management module among them makes data access and expansion very easy. The procedure is illustrated by several examples, showing practicality of the approach taken.
