The purpose of this thesis is developing the algorithms of region based image segmentation. The region growing operates in one pass and groups the pixels spatially adjacent (proximity) and similar in characteristics (similarity). During grouping operation, the threshold values are allowed to vary with respect to the variance of the each region. So the region growing can actively cope with the complexity of the image array.
Since the region grower mainly focus attention on the local features of the image array, they have many weakness in the global point of view. So I use simple heuristics to segment the objects and background. The merged region lists are used to construct hierarchical tree structure for emphasizing the focus of attention returned from high level part.
본 논문의 목적은 효과적인 영상 분할을 수행하기 위하여 region adjacency 를 이용한 merged region 들로써 계층적 tree 구조를 만들어 high level part 로부터 feedback 되는 focus of attention 을 적절히 처리 할 수 있도록 하는 데 있다.
기본적으로 화소간의 근접성 ( proximity ) 과 유사성 ( similarity ) 을 바탕으로 region growing을 수행하고, 인접한 region 들 간의 관계를 찾아 region adjacency 를 구한다. region adjacency 로 부터 특성이 유사한 region 들을 모아 merged region list를 만들고, 궁극적으로 계층적 tree 구조를 형성하여 원하는 부분을 상세히 보고자 하는 focus of attention 을 원할하게 하여준다.
