The ultrasound focusing used in a conventional diagnostic B-scanner is achieved through the coherent addition of the appropriately delayed pulse echo signals backscattered from an imaging volume of interest.
This thesis presents a new method of focusing called modified bandwidth focusing where digital time domain operations supersede the analog delay lines and the sampling rate requirement on analog-to-digital converter is greatly relaxed as compared with that required for the synthetic focusing.
The modified bandwidth focusing method reduces speckle noise fluctuations at the cost of lateral resolution, providing a smoother B-mode image. Computer simulations and water tank experiments using the ultrasonic experimental setup are carried out to demonstrate the validity of the proposed modified bandwidth focusing method.
본 논문에서 새로 제안한 수정된 대역폭 집속 방법의 타당성을 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션및 수조실험을 통하여 확인하였다. 제안된 새로운 초음파 집속 방법은 초음파 집속에 필요한 애널로그-디지털 변환기의 표본화 주파수를 낮추어 줄 뿐만 아니라 초음파 영상의 스페클 잡음의 변동을 감소시켜준다. 그러나 주파수 복조과정때문에 측방향 해상도의 저하를 가져다 주게 된다.
본 논문에서 제안된 새로운 초음파 집속 방법을 채택하면 보다 낮은 표본화 주파수를 사용할 수 있으므로 디지털 하드웨어로 구현하기가 쉬울 뿐만 아니라 애널로그 초음파 집속 하드웨어에서 흔히 발생하는 스위칭 잡음도 제거시켜 준다. 이러한 여러가지 장점 때문에 제안한 초음파 집속 방법을 실 시간 애널로그 또는 디지털 초음파 진단장치에 적용시킬 수 있다.
