This study is concerned with the media access protocol for voice and data integrated local area network. The goal is to transmit voice and data integration efficiently through CSMA/CD-based local area networks, satisfying the real-time constraint of voice communication. Several variations of CSMA/CD protocol, designed to support voice and data integration on local area networks, are studied. A new protocol called Movable Slot Time Division Multiplexing protocol with Power Capture (MSTDM/PC), which supports a priority scheme, is proposed in this thesis. By utilizing power capture effect and applying different backoff strategies for voice and data, the voice and data integration can be supported well on the CSMA/CD-based local area network. Simulation is carried out for the comparative study with the conventional CSMA/CD system.
음성과 자료의 통합 전송은 통신 시스템에서 일고 있는 공통적인 경향으로 경비 절감 뿐만아니라 사용자에게 강화된 서비스를 제공할 수 있다는 이점을 가지고 있다.
대표적인 근거리 컴퓨터망 통신 기술의 하나인 CSMA/CD 방식은 자료 전송에 있어서 성능이 우수하다. 그러나 네트웍에서 각 패킷이 겪어야하는 시간지연에 상한선을 주지 못할 뿐만아니라 그 편차 역시 중요시 여기고 있지 않기 때문에 실시간 음성전송에는 적합하지 못하다.
이에 CSMA/CD 방식을 다소 변경 적용함으로써 CSMA/CD를 기본으로 하는 근거리 컴퓨터망 상에서 음성과 자료를 함께 전송하고자 하는 노력이 전개되었다. MSTDM은 이러한 노력의 산물로 음성 및 자료의 통합 전송에 적합한 많은 특성을 가지고 있으나 이를 구현하는 데 필요한 overhead가 크다.
본 논문에 제안된 MSTDM.PC 방식은 이러한 overhead를 줄이기 위하여 power capture 개념을 도입하였다. 전송하는 패킷의 전력 수준을 달리함으로써 부가적인 채널용량의 소모없이 음성과 자료를 함께 효율적으로 전송할 수 있게 하였다.
시뮬레이션을 통해 제안된 프로토콜과 CSMA/CD 방식을 비교하여 보았으며 그 결과 제안 방식의 우수성을 증명할 수 있었다.
