Steering system helps drivers to steer a vehicle to follow their desired path. Even though steering system amplifies driver’s steering torque with gear ratio, without power steering system, it is hard to steer the vehicle. The EPS(Electric Power Steering) system helps drivers to steer the vehicle with motor assist torque and it is replacing the hydraulic power steering system.
Designing an EPS controller is a difficult problem. Generation of assist torque, system stability, vibration reduction, return-to-center control and transferring necessary road information to driver should be considered to design an EPS controller. After designing EPS controller, simulation should be conducted. However, simulation only using software is not reliable and also it is impossible to simulate new controller in vehicle for safety problem. Therefore, to develop an EPS controller, the HILS (Hardware in the Loop Simulation) system is needed. It is much reliable than software simulation and also can replace real vehicle test in special condition.
To develop a reliable EPS HILS system, two things should be considered. First, real vehicle and an EPS HILS system should have same steering feel. Second, the road disturbance torque realized in the HILS system should be same as that of real vehicle test. Most of the EPS HILS system uses CARSIM to realize road disturbance torque. However, to use CARSIM, lots of vehicle parameters should be known and it is very difficult, costs a lot and time consuming. To overcome this problem, in this research we suggested a new method and ideas for developing a reliable EPS HILS system. We suggested an idea for an EPS HILS system to have same dynamics of real vehicle and also derived the simple road disturbance torque equations from real vehicle tests. Using suggested ideas, reliable HILS system can be developed and it can replace real vehicle test in special condition.
이를 해결하기 위해 개발된 시스템이 HILS(Hardware-in-the-Loop Simulation) 시스템이다.
