Two types of artificial hip joints were studied experimentally and numerically to evaluate the stresses on various points and cement mixing technique was studied to improve its mechanical strength. In vitro study of dried adult male femur implanted by torsion type and charnley type prostheses, strain gages reading were made at the stem and femur under the loading condition simulating one leg stance. Also the prostheses -femur system was modeled by a 172 elements of 8 model block and computed by SAP V FEM package.
As a measure of improving mechanical strength and bonding property of bone cement, degasing treatment of the dough before hardening were tested with good result.
