This thesis discusses system design and selection of file organization for implementation of information retrieval program.
This work first constructs search strategy, and then presents an effective file design as well as sufficiently detailed descriptions of techniques that have been used to implement theses programs.
It is important to have an idea what the ""best"" or at least what the appropriate file organization before information retrieval program is implemented.
Therefore, the study provides a methodology to estimate total storage space, access time for the evaluation of candidate file organization choices, given a specific data base and query characterization and device-related specifications.
Based on these estimates, an optimal file organization is selected.
Finally, retrieval program has been implemented in PL/I language.
