The purposes of this thesis are to propose test materials for scoring the intelligibility of speech in Korean and to evaluate the relationship between the background noise and the intelligibility of speech by using the propose the test materials.
For the construction of the materials, first, eight distinctive features are classified by the place and manner of articulation. Second, the frequency of occurrence of phonemes is considered. The format used is of the form consonant-vowel-consonant(CVC).
An experiment was performed to determine the effect of the signal-to-noise ratio (S/N ratio) with reliability when administered to nine adult males in graduate school (KAIST). The level of noise is manipulated to provide S/N ratio of -2, 0, 6 and 9dB relative to the level of speech.
As the result of an experiment, it is shown that only S/N ratio of three factors (speaker, listener and S/N ratio) effects on the intelligibility of speech. The result suggests that it is effective especially in evaluating the performance level of a military communication system. Analysis of the responses to individual elemente is discussed for enhancing the intelligibility.
본 연구는 한국어 음성통화이해도를 측정하기 위한 실험재료를 제공하고, 제공된 실험재료를 이용하여 잡음과 통화이해도와의 관계를 평가하는데 그 목적이 있다. 실험 재료를 작성하기 위하여 다음의 2가지 기준이 마련되었다.
첫째, 8개의 변별적 자질들이 조음위치및 방식에 의하여 분류되었다. 변별적 자질이란 지적의미를 분화시키는 음성적 자질이다.
둘째, 음소들의 출현빈도수가 고려되었다. 그 이유는 빈도수가 시각적및 청각적 익숙도에 영향을 미치므로써 반응오차를 발생시키기 때문이다. 따라서, 이로 인한 반응오차를 최소화시킬 필요가 있다.
실험재료는 자음-모음-자음 형태의 단음절로써 구성되었다. 실험은 대학원(KAIST)에 재학중인 9인의 성인들로 이루어진 청취자 집단과 2인의 송화자 집단에 의하여 행하여졌다. 이때, 신호대 소음비(S/N비)의 효과를 결정하도록 수행되었다. 소음수준은 음성수준에 대하여 S/N비가 -2,0,6 및 9dB로 제공되었다.
실험결과 통화이해도에 미치는 3가지 요인들-실험 목적상 송화자, 청취자 및 S/N비의 3가지 요인들로 제한시켰다. -중 S/N 비만이 유의하였다.
이 결과는 통신체계의 상대적인 성능수준을 평가하는데 있어서, 제공된 실험재료가 효과적임을 보인 것이다. 또한 이해도 증진을 위하여 각 반응들의 분석이 토의되었다.
